Of course! If someone was able to log in to your wordpress.com account, it means they also have full access to your email account.
To harden security of your wordpress.com account
- change your password to a strong password, https://wordpress.com/support/security/#selecting-a-strong-nbsp-password
- activate 2FA, https://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/
Do the same with your email account. Also avoid the use of open, free wifi.
