Theme selection is subjective and becoming bogged down in theme selection is an deep abyss that many new bloggers find it hard to get out of. Be aware that themes are only “skins” and that we can change them like we chnage clothes ie. quite easily and without ever losing any content. Also be aware that every theme has a detailed theme description page to assist with set up and a live demo sites as well.
Your blog is currently wearing Motif.
detailed theme description page http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/motif/
live demo site http://motifdemo.wordpress.com/
previous forum threads on that theme https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/motif
Exactly what are your required features in a theme? You can use the feature filters to browse themes by clicking the “find a theme” button here to open the selection up for you http://theme.wordpress.com/

The only themes we can use on WordPress.com blogs like your blog at http://mhewittblog.wordpress.com/ are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot upload any third party themes.
Relevant support docs:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that.

Hi there,
In addition to timethief’s recommendations, you might want to check out our guide for Using WordPress.com to Create a Website. That page has a number of tips for making a website out of any theme you choose at WordPress.com.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
