Self-hosted, but URL still points to wordpress.com.
-
Here’s what has happened so far:
1. I (like an idiot) created a wordpress.com blog and purchased a domain through wordpress.
2. I realized that I needed to self-host, so I am self-hosted at DreamHost.
3. I one-click installed WordPress. After I installed WordPress at Dreamhost, I got an email that gave me further instructions – but all the URLs they say I need to go to are http://www.thedailydeficit.com/. When I click on those links, I am either redirected to a http://dailydeficit.wordpress.com/ URL, or I get a “404 Not Found”. I understand that this is because my domain name is still pointing to wordpress.com, and that I need to edit my DNS records so that they point at Dreamhost. I am not 100% sure where to find that info, though, and I’m really afraid of screwing something up or creating a loop. What precisely should I be putting in the “Custom DNS Records” field?
My second question: at what point do I need to import? I’ve exported the blog, but I’m not sure at what point I should input it since I’m having this problem with the site mapping.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Question 1: Your nameservers need to be changed to point to your new webhost. You can find instructions for that here:
Question 2: I would get everything set up and running properly at your new location and then export/import any content you have at WordPress.com.
