Self-hosted/WordPress.org Transfer Questions

  Hello! I am considering transferring my blog over to a self-hosted blog on WordPress.org. There are a couple of things I couldn’t find answers on:

  Custom design: I purchased the custom design package + worked with Tweaky to do CSS customization. Will this transfer over?

  Domain: I registered my domain through WordPress.com (less than 60 days ago). Can I transfer this as well?

  The Custom Design upgrade is available on WordPress.com only. Note that there are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

  To point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), please follow the instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/#changing-domain-name-servers

  This guide explains how to transfer the domain name to another registrar.

  Hi – thank you for the information!

  I am mostly concerned about the custom CSS that I had implemented: added my logo, added trim at top and made widget photo smaller. Will this custom CSS transfer over?

  The Custom CSS won’t be transferred automatically. However, you can manually copy/paste the code on your self-hosted site at Appearance → Edit CSS.

  If you have the Jetpack plugin installed you get an easy Custom CSS editor similar to the one on WordPress.com. More information about Custom CSS in Jetpack can be found at http://jetpack.me/support/custom-css/

  Ok got it! One more question…

  Once I export my files will they be permanently gone from my WordPress.com blog? Or will they still exist there? I would prefer if all my information stay there for now.

  If you export your WordPress.com blog content the content will still exist on your WordPress.com blog :)
