Selling My Site to Client

    Hi I just built a site and want to sell it to a local business. Its a free theme right now but I can upgrade to business once theyre happy with design.
    How does the ownership get transferred and who takes care of hosting?

    Hi there,

    Did you create the site here on WordPress.com? Then it is hosted by WordPress.com.

    To transfer the site to someone else, they will first need to have their own WordPress.com username account. Then you can transfer the site and any upgrades to the other account using the instructions here:

    Please note that if the site has a custom domain that has to be transferred separately before you transfer the site:

    If you have built the site locally on your computer or with another hosting provider, then you are using the self-hosted WordPress.org software. We do not provide support for that version of WordPress in these forums, but for a local-hosted site your client will probably need to set up a hosting account and give you access so you can upload the site to their hosting provider.
