  I purchased the 99 premium package for hosting and getting a domain name. I want to set up a new site (not a blog) using themes and plug ins. How to do get started?

  Hi Ray,

  We have a guide for setting up a website here at WordPress.com on this page: http://createyour.wordpress.com/

  That site specifically mentions the WordPress.com Business plan, but most of the steps are also applicable if you’re setting up a website with the WordPress.com Premium plan.

  However, please keep in mind that it isn’t possible to upload themes or plugins here at WordPress.com. You can browse and search all of our themes in the theme directory. We also have many built-in features inspired by popular plugins. If there’s a particular feature you need, you can search our support site or let me know what you’re looking for and I’ll help you find out if it’s available here at WordPress.com.

  thanks for the reply.

  I am looking to build a world class news site with all the latest and greatest features. I see that you a few themes.

  It sounds like I made a mistake by going with WP.com since I won’t be able to access the many thousands of plugins, themes, etc. out in the market. I mean, if I want a specific feature and you don’t offer it, I’m out-of-luck, right?

  Sorry, I’m just getting started and wanted to be able to develop and control my own site. Should I continue with you all or should I cancel WP.com and start over at WP.org.

  If you’re looking for features that aren’t available here at WordPress.com, you may be better off with a self-hosted site using WordPress.org. We have more details about the differences here: WordPress.com and WordPress.org

  If you decide to go that route, I can refund your WordPress.com Premium plan purchase or you can do that from your My Upgrades page here:

  https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

  In that case, you might also want to check out the Jetpack plugin — it brings some of the most popular WordPress.com features to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.

  Hi Ray,

  I cancelled your WordPress.com Premium plan and issued you a full refund, so you’re all set with that.

  The site you set up here at WordPress.com has the free address http://scienceandtechnologyresearchnews.wordpress.com. Unless you’d like to keep using that address, I’d recommend registering a custom domain name of your own with your new host.
