Setting up multiple login account types

    Hello

This has probably been covered but as I’m fairly new was not able to locate anything so far.

We’re hoping to set up 3 types of accounts
    1) Public – with certain access restrictions
    2) Media – specific access parameters
    3) Artists – specific access parameters

Is this possible and what would be the best way to set this up for the account registration on the site?
Single page with checkbox options as to which type of account the registrar is creating OR 3 different pages , each with a specific registration type?

Thanks for any advice, links to existing info, and help provided.
    Jesse

None of this is really possible on wordpress.com. There are 4 basic “user roles” in wordpress. Admin, editor, author and contributor, but these all have to do with access levels on the backend (dashboard).

This is possible on a self-hosted wordpress installation at a third-party hosting service such as godaddy, bluehost, etc., using one of the available membership plugins, but to get the level of control you want, it might require that you go with one of the “premium” plugins which costs money. I set up one a long time ago and the cost that sticks in my mind was $495 per year.

Many thanks for taking the time to respond so quickly – that’s exactly the information I was hoping to find out.
We have our own server as the site already exists but we’re looking at WP as it provides a lot of features that we’d like to integrate but before starting – this was an important element.

Are there any membership plugins you’d recommend?

Again – thanks for your response.

Plugins change so frequently, some are in active development and some are not, and it has been so long since I did that site that I cannot remember which plugin I used. Do a search at http://wordpress.ORG/extend/plugins/ and then read up on them, and also visit the plugin author’s website and root around there to get as much clarity and information as you can. You can use the star ratings at wordpress/extend/ as a general guide, but still do the research.

Also on self-hosted installs, those are supported over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ . Since things are more restricted here and since things here work differently, we will generally be of little help to you.

I will check into the options.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Cheers
    Jesse
