Setting Up Windows Live Writer
-
Hi. I’m just playing with this, I don’t even know if I will actually use it or not. But, I can’t seem to get Windows Live Writer set up. I added my blog name like it said in the instructions, but I still get an error. It says MovedPermanently: Moved Permanently. I chose wordpress.com from the dropdown box, changed <blogname> to my username, and clicked next. Every time I try it, I get the same error. What Am I doing wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are you using this guide? Windows Live Writer https://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/
-
That’s the guide I used. I have tried and tried again. I keep getting that same error. I don’t know if it’s some sort of conflict with the program itself, but I just downloaded it the other day, so it should be up to date. I change the blogname like it asks me to, but I get the same error. According to the guide, I shouldn’t even be seeing that page at all. I don’t know…

I just wanted to update this thread. I started a blogspot account, just to see if the problem was with Live Writer. I was able to connect and post on the first try. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but the problem is connecting to wordpress.

Hi there,
On the “Add a Blog Account” screen, what address are you entering for your blog? Please note that your blog’s address starts with https like this:
-
I never would have believed it, but I think that fixed it. I was able to log in, however it wouldn’t download the theme, but that’s no big deal. I don’t know what exactly fixed it, but I will tell you what I did, in case someone else has the same problem. First of all, I changed the http:// that Live Writer automatically inserts to https://. I had to do that twice, on the blog address and on the post address. The other thing I did was that I didn’t log in onto the website on my browser. All the other times I had a browser window open when I tried to connect. I don’t know which one of these two things fixed the problem, so if you’re having the same problem do them both.

I’m so glad it’s working now, and thank you for sharing what worked so others can try it. :)
