Shared-hosting between Siteground & WordPress?

Hey! I am contemplating moving my free WordPress to shared-hosting with Siteground. However, I was unsure of what (if any) plugins and or/ other features will be available to me from WordPress? I ask because currently, the installation of many plugins are limited to paid business plans through WordPress.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

“WordPress”, is the name of the software you’ll be using at Siteground. That software is made by the community on WordPress.org. The WordPress software does not “include” any plugins. Plugins are made by the same WordPress.org community, and by for-profit companies, in order to extend the default functionality of the open source software.

Your site, http://anomalousdarlings.wordpress.com/ is hosted on WordPress.com. We use our own modified version of the WordPress software here, and yes, on WordPress.com you need to be on our Business Plan to use plugins.

If you move to hosting at Siteground, you will no longer be hosted with us, but you’ll be using the open source version of WordPress instead, and none of the restrictions that apply on WordPress.com will apply to your site at Siteground, as we’ll have no control whatsoever over that site. In theory, you’ll be able to use whatever plugins or themes you want at Siteground, but they might have their own restrictions in terms of blocked or incompatible plugins, etc. Please contact Siteground support directly in that regard.
