Sharing Header Images between blogs
-
I have two blogs.
One has an array of images uploaded for use as Header Images.
I wish to use the same images as Header Images on the second blog.
Both use the same Theme.
I have been using WordPress for years and thought I knew my way around, but cannot figure this one out!
Surely I can make these Header Images available on both blogs?
I don’t have local copies of the images, as they were cropped to size using WordPress.

Please provide the URL for the blog in question in the form of an active link starting with http:// because without it we cannot provide any accurate answers to any questions you post here.
-
Sorry, but I don’t wish to disclose the url, as it is a private blog.
The question is a genetic one relating to the management of media (images) between blogs. Not sure why my specific blog is relevant?

We cannot help you without the URL. If the blog is set to private, we will be able to confirm the version of software you are using without being able to read the blog.

Well, since they are BOTH private, and thus all the images are private as well, we cannot proceed. You just upload the images to the second blog the way you uploaded them to the first blog, and more specific help than that we cannot provide.
-
OK. Thanks then.
Still struggling to see why seeing the blogs would help, as this is just a generic ‘how to’ question. But never mind.
I just figured there might be a way to move media between blogs which share the same user account, and if so what that might be.
But if there isn’t then I shall have to re-load all the images.
So are we saying there is no point asking for help on here, regarding private blogs?
-
Seeing the blogs helps for several reasons.
- We need the URL because fully 70% of people who refuse to give us URLs are in the wrong forum, and we can tell immediately once we can look at the URL.
- We need to see the actual blog and image because we can then analyze the sourcecode and see if there is something in the HTML that is preventing the sharing
But your last statement makes it clear: you’re talking about hotlinking between blogs. It’s EASY to do that for post content when the blogs are not private. When the blogs are private, it is not possible. It is also not possible to hotlink a header image unless you have the custom design upgrade.
This is a security measure so that people don’t use your images without your permission.
-
Even if you have custom design, it is not possible to take an image hosted on a private blog and use it elsewhere.
-
That’s great thanks.
So, if I make both blogs public whilst I share images and then make them private again, that would work for general sharing of media?
However, this would not work for Header Images, full stop (without an upgrade).
Thanks again.

So any material I share while they are public will cease to be available once made private again?
Or will THAT media remain shared? -
ALL media on private blogs remains private to that blog. Media that was previously shared will no longer be shared.
Honestly, just re-upload the images to the other blog.
