Shut down Site Temporarily

  How do I shut down my site temporarily while I am updating it? I want to change the theme and make some other changes to the appearance, then relaunch my blog in a month or so. I would like to make sure my subscribers know what is happening – can I install a message letting them know the site is being updated? How do I do this?

  Hi there,

  You can temporarily set your site to private so that only readers invited can view your blog. You can set this by going to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard. Please view the link below for more information:

  You can set your site back to Public whenever you are ready. If you want to let you subscribers know ahead of time, I would publish a post while it’s public so that they receive the email before you set it to Private.

  As for installing a message that unfortunately wouldn’t be possible.
