    I am trying to build a new site, because my web development tool will be losing support over the next year. I would like to use wordpress as the engine, because of its longevity. the subject site address, which I apparently accepted inadvertently, is unacceptable as my address going forward. Is it possible to change it to a more memorable name? I have domains of my own but I would like to build the site prior to using them.

    Can you assist please?

    You can change the free address of your site at any time, yes, provided the address you want to use has not already been registered:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

    All our paid plans also allow you to either register or connect a domain you already own. You can also connect a subdomain of a domain you already own, so if you have a domain but you don’t want to switch it yet, you might want to consider connecting a subdomain instead for now. You can always switch that with your preferred domain later.

    If you connect an existing domain or subdomain in this way, that is what visitors to your site will see and what search engines will index. The WordPress.com address will still exist behind the scenes, but will not be visible.
