We have no record of that domain ever being registered or hosted here, so if it was a WordPress site, it may have been using the WordPress software from https://wordpress.org/ and hosted elsewhere.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
It was also not using our backup product https://jetpack.com/upgrade/backup/ so we are unable to directly assist with this.
Your best bet to recover the site would be to contact your former hosting provider’s support, as they may have a backup of your account with them. If you don’t recall your hosting provider, the domain appears to have been registered with GoDaddy, so I recommend starting there: https://www.godaddy.com/help

I registered the domain name with namecheap and created the site on word press, and imported the domain name in. The site is up and running, and indeed, when I go to the site and click on the word press logo it takes me to the .org site and not yours. Having said that, is there a way to sign up with you folks and switch it over to your hosting service without too much hassle?

If you’d like, you can move the site over to us by following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
But you’ll need to at least be able to access the site’s Dashboard first, so I recommend starting by contacting your former hosting provider’s support.
If they can’t help either, you’re welcome to start over with us at https://wordpress.com/start
