Site export
-
Hi all,
I’m looking to backup my personal site and host it on my Synology NAS.
If I upgrade to the Business Plan, install the relevant plugins and take a full export of site, can I then cancel my Business Subscription – or is there an easier way?
I’ve tried the basic site export and it can’t get the site working on the NAS – no photos are displayed.
Thanks

Hi there,
You don’t need to upgrade to the Business plan to transfer your site. If you follow this guide (https://move.wordpress.com/) you’ll be able to transfer your site.
However, it’s not recommended to host a site on your own computer or home server. The home internet infrastructure is not meant for website hosting. Plus a NAS is designed to be used as file storage, not as a web server.

Hi,
I would like to keep the site on WordPress, but have a full backup on my NAS for viewing on my internal network only – no permissions granted for external access.
Is there a way to backup and import the full site with working links/photos onto my Synology NAS?
Many thanks

If you set up a WordPress installation from https://wordpress.org/ on your NAS, you can export your site from WordPress.com https://wordpress.com/support/export/ and import it into the WordPress.org site: https://wordpress.org/support/article/importing-content/#wordpress
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
