Site formatting is different and faulty on iPhones

    Hi there,

I recently discovered that dropdown menus on WordPress sites don’t work properly on iPhone browsers. You are only given about a second to click an option from the dropdown menu before it disappears and you have to start over.

I do not have an iPhone, and so was unaware of this issue until I viewed my site on a couple of friends’ iPhones. But this is obviously a concern, because a lot of people use iPhones and I am worried that they will be put off visiting my website because of this formatting issue. It works fine on Android phone browsers and on all computers and laptops.

Is WordPress aware of this issue with menus on iPhone browsers and, if so, please could something be done to fix it?

  • @jennybrockartist I’m guessing this is an issue with your theme. Can you confirm you’re seeing it on jennybrockartist.wordpress.com, and if so could you let us know which iPhone you’re using, and whether you’re using it in portrait or landscape?

Hi, yes I confirm that is the website.

I don’t know which iPhones they were. As I explained in my first post, they were not mine, but friends’. I viewed my website on two different iPhones, so I assume it is an issue with most or all of them.

The phone screens were in portrait mode.

On Android phones, like mine, the wordpress site automatically adapts its formatting to being viewed on a phone screen, but this does not seem to happen with iPhones, hence the issue.

  • Hi Jenny,

I tested your site’s mobile menu on an iPhone running the latest iOS version (12.3.1) and I didn’t encounter any issues.

Is it possible to ask from your friends their iPhones models and iOS versions so we can further troubleshoot this?

Hi, thank you for investigating this.

I’m glad that you didn’t encounter any issues with the phone you tried; as long as this isn’t a problem with every iPhone then I don’t mind.

I can’t remember whose phone I viewed it on, so I can’t ask I’m afraid.

  • Jenny –

Well, if you do encounter the issue again we will need to know what type of iPhone and what version of iOS they have installed. It’d be helpful to know which browser the site was viewed in as well. If you can grab a screen shot for us that’d be awesome.

I’ll leave this open so you can report back if needed in the future.
