Skip cropping header image
-
I used to be able to upload an image larger than the default and just skip the cropping. I just read that this is no longer available in version WP3.5
It is vital that I upload this new image. I have edited the CSS but still no luck.
Must I downgrade in order to get the “Skip cropping and Publish” feature/button back?
Thanks in advance.

If you uploaded an image that doesn’t match the exact dimensions of your current theme’s header, you will need to crop it.
You can read more about a Custom Header Image at http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/

I already have a header image much larger than the default dimensions. So it’s a little frustrating that I now cannot skip cropping like I did before.

On line 116 and 117 of your Custom CSS you can change the height and width of your header: https://fashionbloglove.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=editcss

Thanks. Already in place, already edited. Still no joy. I need the “Skip cropping and publish” button back. Can I just downgrade?
-
I see. I’m sorry that’s not possible. As mentioned before if you uploaded an image that doesn’t match the exact dimensions of your current theme’s header, you will need to crop it.
Otherwise feel free to select a different theme that supports larger headers at http://themes.wordpress.com

But my current header image is larger than what is allowed. If I go to a lower WP version, will this button not be available? It used to be possible, hence why I have a header image much larger than the default.
-
We don’t have multiple versions on WordPress.com. Every theme has it’s own fixed header size where images have to fit in.

I have Digg 3 theme. The fixed header dimensions header are: 904 px by 160 px.
My current header is 904 px by 367 px.
My current CSS is 904 px by 420 px.
So as you can see, I currently have a header much larger than what is allowed. This was facilitated by the “skip cropping” button.
How would you advise that I upload a new header image, the same dimensions as my current header image, now that the “skip cropping” button is no longer available??
I understand that themes have fixed header dimensions, but the “skip cropping” button used to allow us to override this.
Is there a way I can override my current header image?? Thanks.

It seems the button has previously been removed for themes that do not support headers with flexible width or height. You might want to try out a different theme: http://themes.wordpress.com

I cannot choose a new theme – my brand depends on the one I currently use.
kathrynwp just offered to play around with my new header image, if I upload it now. Is it possible for her to get in touch as she has closed my other topic? Or do you know how she/wordpress staff can help in terms of the new image replacing the old.
This is extremely important to me and my whole business is relying on this brand makeover.
Thanks in advance.

You can click on the [Choose Image] button at https://fashionbloglove.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=custom-header to choose an image from your image library and set it as a header.
After saving the header you can delete your old headers at https://fashionbloglove.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php?s=polaroid&action=-1&m=0&paged=1&action2=-1&affected&_ajax_nonce=7d3014323d&ps and

I don’t want to upload as normal, as I cannot upload an image bigger than what is allowed. We’ve been through all of this (above). I was asking whether there was a way your colleague ‘kathrynwp’ was going to be able to replace the image on the server.
There has got to be other options to replace an image on a server.
Thanks.

Elsina, would it be possible to upload the header image you want to use, as I suggested in the other thread?
-
-
I would be absolutely over the moon if I can get this new image on as my header. It is imperative to my brand and clients are relying on this.
The CSS has been edited to allow the height.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi again – much as I’d love to give you the answer you want to hear, unfortunately I can’t. Karim and I have both researched and tested this, and what he told you earlier is correct and can’t be worked around. Themes such as digg3 that don’t support flexible widths and heights will not provide the option to bypass cropping.
This change was made to the WordPress core about five months ago, prior to your last header update. As WordPress core development is public, you can read all about the change here.
As Karim mentioned earlier, you have two main options:
1) choose a different theme
2) crop your header to the dimensions required by the themeThanks for your patience and let us know if we can do anything else.

Ok thanks for your help.
Hopefully I can upload it as a background image, as the CSS permits me to ammend the default header dimensions.
