Slugs and duplicate titles
-
With the classic editor, if I used a title and it was a duplicate, this would be detected automatically and the slug would get the numeric suffix added onto it by default. It appears that with the new editor, this is no longer the case. It just shows the title/slug as normal and then, after I publish, I can see that it’s duplicated and has a numeric suffix.
Is there any way to make it easier to determine if I have a duplicate post title aside from running a search on all my posts?
Why does the new editor no longer preemptively check for duplicate titles?
This was a pretty helpful feature, and I don’t understand why it’s no longer there. -
Hi there,
You’re correct that the block editor doesn’t appear to check this.
I’ve opened a issue over on WordPress.org where the block editor is made so they can look into this. Hopefully they’re able to add this feature back, but it will have to happen there before we can add it back on WordPress.com.
