Some questions about the comment section

As a commenter I would appreciate being able to preview my comment before posting. What would even be greater would be the ability to edit my comment (after discovering a spelling error, for example).
Perhaps these two things are controlled by the Blog owner? I don’t know. And I can’t find any information about it either.
It would also be nice to have some documentation about what a commenter can and cannot use when using coding for formatting. For example, the message I’m currently writing, it has buttons on top of this box saying “strong” “em” “link” “quote” “ul” “ol” “li” “code” and “close”.
And underneath this box it says:
“Allowed markup: a blockquote, code, em, strong, ul, ol, li.
You can also put code in between backtick ( ` ) characters.”Why are these buttons and this information not available when posting a comment?
Only through trial and error have I figured out that you are supposed to use html tagging <> instead of []. Then I see someone use a quote code and I’m thinking “How am I supposed to know that’s possible? Where can I look this up?”

Not all, but most sites here support the HTML characters you’ve mentioned, even though they may not expressly say so near the comment box. The buttons you see here in the forums are specific to the forums.
Brackets are generally for shortcodes. We don’t use UBBCode here.
And I’m not sure why you’ve posted this in the CSS customization forum, but that is neither here nor there. I’ll ask to have it moved to Support.

@yggdrazzil, in general, you may use these HTML tags and attributes in comments:
<a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <strike> <strong>In addition, you or a visitor can embed videos to tweets from twitter into comments as explained here.

@Justjennifer, thanks for your response and putting my question in the right place. My train of thought was: “CSS is for formatting your content. I want to style my comments, maybe comment styling options are also determined by what CSS templates are used, let’s ask there.”
Also, I followed your suggestion but alas, when searching for either “comment” “comment formatting” “comment markup” or “comment code” nothing relevant pops up. As a last ditch effort I searched on “HTML” and read the “beginner” and “advanced” guide about HTML but nothing is mentioned about comment formatting there either.

Will there ever be a “preview pane” for placing comments? Since you are not able to edit your comments, it would be really handy to have a preview window. It can help spotting errors before posting easier.

Absolutely. I’m going to add a section to the Comments support document with that information in it.
I agree with you and @justjennifer that a preview would be a handy thing to have. I’ll see if it is in our ideas database and if not, I will add it.
