  I received an email stating my password was changed!

  A password reset email was sent to the email address on your account, but it would have involved clicking a link in the email to change the password, which means they would have needed access to your email too.

  Most likely it was just someone who mistook your username for theirs.

  Just to be safe, I recommend changing your password at https://wordpress.com/me/security and using a strong password https://wordpress.com/support/security/#traditional-passwords-are-no-longer-safe with two-step authentication: https://wordpress.com/support/security/two-step-authentication/

  And, do the same for your email account.
