Someone else created my account

Hello,
I woke up to two emails, one asking me to confirm my email adress for my wordpress account (that I did not create), and one asking me to finish creating my site (I did not create any accounts or sites). I did not confirm my email adress, instead I changed the password of the wordpress account, checked if there were any sites created (there were none) and I deleted the account.
Did I do the right thing, was I supposed to contact someone from the wordpress customer service because of the, let’s call it, identity theft? -
P.S. This is an account from my other email adress, I have already deleted the falsely created one, so I had to create a different account from a different email to ask this question.

You did the right thing. Someone probably mistyped their own email address and created the account with yours.
They wouldn’t be able to confirm it, and we wouldn’t have any other way to contact them, so deleting that account was the most reasonable thing to do :).
