Someone made an account using my e-mail without my permission.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this.
Someone made a wordpress account using my e-mail without my permission. I did not verify the account. I was trying to use gravatar but it asked me to log into my wordpress account as my e-mail was associated with a wordpress account, which I did not create. Nevertheless, I clicked ‘Forgot Password’ and got access to it and got a new password. I want to use this account but I don’t see any option to change my ‘@’ username. More accurately, I cannot seem to change it. I clicked on the username block but it does not allow me to edit it. I cannot do this part specifically ‘https://youtu.be/qhsjkqFdDZo?t=35’ (This is the wordpress tutorial on how to change the username). Should I just delete this account and make an account with this e-mail after the 30 day waiting period? I cannot use another e-mail as I want to use gravatar to change my profile picture everywhere. Please if anyone has the ability to change the ‘@’ that would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

Hi there!
Someone made a wordpress account using my e-mail without my permission. I did not verify the account. I was trying to use gravatar but it asked me to log into my wordpress account as my e-mail was associated with a wordpress account, which I did not create.
As you may have already figured out, Gravatar uses WordPress.com accounts. So if you used Gravatar before, that was when the WordPress.com account was created. Do you recall creating your Gravatar account in the past?
I want to use this account but I don’t see any option to change my ‘@’ username. More accurately, I cannot seem to change it.
The option to change your username is not available because your account is not verified yet. I’ve sent an email to the email address on this account. Please reply to the email, and we’ll mark this account as verified. You will then be able to change the username.
You can close the account, but as you mentioned, you will need to wait 30 days for the email address to be freed up. So I’d suggest replying to our email (you will receive it soon) so that we can verify your account.
Let us know if you have more questions.
