Someone plagiarised me on WordPress.com

There is a post by a WordPress user which is a verbatim rip-off of an article I published with footnotes suppressed (might reveal the identity of the author and his hard research work, that is me!) How do complain about this to WordPress? Why did they not pick it up? Will WordPress remove it after checking at the link I can provide to a a university publication or should I sue the posturer?

@bilimoriap, you should go back on that site, and if it is hosted by WordPress.com look at the bottom right hand corner, and you’ll be able and click the … button. Then, click report site and follow directions as necessary. You can also visit Report Sites, and you’ll be able to report it from there. We want your information to be Yours! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you Alisson. I had posted a comment on the post, and the author of the post (the posturer) wrote back to me with apologies with some fluffy explanation. Now when I went back to look for it to follow your suggestion I see that the post has been removed; it is no longer there. So the author has unwittingly confessed to the guilt. I don’t mind and I believe people know what the Gandhi and Civil Rights connections I wrote on, but there should be proper acknowledgement as this was a Ford Foundation funded project and I don’t want to look like I sold it to someone else or someone is claiming to be their sole work. Thank you again.

@bilimoriap, I am glad you got the issue solved. Let me know if you have any more questions regarding this.

  • Hi there,

For future reference, if someone is using your content without your permission, please follow the steps outlined here:

Copyright Infringement – What to Do

Please DO NOT use the Report Site link as suggested above, as we can only act in copyright issues if we’ve received a valid DMCA takedown notice. It’s always a good idea to first contact the person who used the content first as you did, though. Thanks for doing that.
