How do I disable comments on my media. I am getting spam comments on the photos on my older posts even though I have closed comments after 14 days.
    Thanks.

    Hello there,

Spam is terribly annoying. To disable your comments, please click the instructions below:
    en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/

To make sure spam commenters cannot publish on your site, you also have the option of blacklisting them:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-blacklist

Finally, before visitors can publish comments, you can require that they have their first comment moderated and okay’d by you. That way, you can approve/disapprove their presence on your site:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#before-a-comment-appears

Please let me know if I can help further with this issue. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. I am not able to fix this issue. Although I have disabled comments on posts older than 14 days, the spammer clicks on the photo on my old articles and leaves a spam comment on the photo. Is there any way to disable comments on my media photos? TB

Hi there, Could you please send me some links to post/images/etc where this spammer is attacking your site? Thanks!

Here is the link to my spam box and two comments attached to a photo.
Thank you for keeping up with this. TB

Hi there! I see that these spammers got caught in your spam filter, which is great. That’s what we want Akistmet (our anti-spam filter) to do.

I’m concerned if their spam comments are actually being published on your site. Do you have any links to photos where that spam is appearing live?

    Thanks very much!

I did have a lot of spam comments that got through the filter but I marked them as spam and then deleted them.
There should not be new comments at all now on posts older than 14 days. I have disabled comments on old blogs. I don’t know how they managed to override the comment disablement on posts more than 14 days old.
I receive only about 2 or 3 each day now as opposed to hundreds, but I am interested to know why they can still comment on the photos.

Please send me those links I requested so I can look into this for you. Thanks.

    Four more today.
I do not have old links as I deleted the spam as already explained.

I am sure your people would be interested to fix the fact that spammers are still able to comment after 14 days on blogs where comments are closed after 14 days.

Hello there! Your image attachment pages are not controlled by the “14-day rule” in the same way your Posts’ comments are. Here are the instructions to turn off comments for individual media files:

    1. In your site’s Dashboard, click Media → Library. Then hover your cursor over an image name and click Edit.
    2. In the Edit Image page, scroll down until you see the Discussion Module.
    3. De-select “Allow comments” and “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.”
    4. Click Update to save your changes.

This will keep your images safe from comment spam. Please let me know if you have additional questions about this process. Thank you!

I got as far as step 3, there was no tick box for ‘Allow comments’ nor for ‘Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page’.
There was a tick box for ‘Show likes’ and ‘Show sharing buttons’ only. These I have unchecked to see what happens. TB

Aha! Seems as if your Discussion Module is hiding. Let’s make it visible. Please return to step 1:

In your site’s Dashboard, click Media → Library. Then hover your cursor over an image name and click Edit.

Then, in the upper right corner, you’ll see a tab called Screen Options. Click on that. Then, click “Discussion” to make that module visible. Now you can return to the other steps:

In the Edit Image page, scroll down until you see the Discussion Module.

De-select “Allow comments” and “Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this page.”

Click Update to save your changes.

Let me know if that helps. Thank you.

Thank you for persevering with this. I have turned off comments on media as per your instructions and the spam box is empty after 3 days!
    Great. TB
