Spam on my account

Hello,
I have been getting an overload o spam ‘comments’ on my WordPress account every day and it keeps getting worse which is resulting in a lot of frustration. I woke up today to 324 messages in my email account, logged in to see my WordPress and saw it was all complete spam. I do not know why my account is suddenly being targeted but I would like to figure out how to make it stop. If you have any knowledge on this and can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, it looks like you are using WordPress but you are not hosted here at WordPress.com. These forums are for those hosted here at WordPress.com. For self-hosted WordPress sites such as yours, I would suggest asking for help in the volunteer-based WordPress.org forums.
The spammers have new tactics and it is taking a while for the spam filters to catch up with things. You aren’t the only one seeing this influx.
Do you have the Akismet spam plugin installed and connected? If not, I would suggest doing that, and if you do, make sure and mark the spam comments as spam and do not just delete them. Akismet will then learn and start to block them.
If you go into Settings > Discussion, make sure things are set things so that all commenters have to have a previously approved comment or they are held in moderation. At least in that way they won’t end up on your blog.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are separate, so if you do not already have an account at WordPress.org, you will need to register.
