spams with wordpress username

    In last 12 hours I received hundreds of spam messages from the addresses with username ‘wordpress’. Does somebody know what is going on?

    HI there,

    What is the exact email address from where you’ve received these emails, and what is the subject line? If “wordpress” is before the @ that is completely meaningless. Any email from us will be coming from @wordpress.com, not wordpress@. To know who is sending you those emails you must look at the domain after the @.

    If the subject line is “new user registration” or something similar, those emails are coming from self-hosted WordPress websites where someone is using your email address to register new user accounts, probably in an attempt to hack those sites.

    The only way to stop this would be to report the domain after the @ to the email provider they’re using to send the emails. You can find that information in the email headers of the email.
