Starting up! How do I get my 1000 pixel wide images to show at 1000 pixels wide?

    It’s probably a very basic question, but I’ve just signed up, and would really like the centre content for all my posts (wording and imagery) to be 1,000 pixels wide.

    I’ve uploaded a couple of images that are 1,000 pixels wide, but whatever I try, I can only get them to show at 700 pixels wide.

    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Ian,

    Please note that the Spun theme’s main column width is set to 700 px as seen here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/spun/

    Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels):
    The main column width is 700.
    The sidebar widths are 230.

    In order to change this, you would need to edit CSS by purchasing the Custom Design upgrade. This would include applying custom fonts and colors.

    Hi Grace,

    Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it.

    I did suspect that might be the case, but I tried to use the preview ‘customise’ area (where it says “Set a different content width for videos, full size images, and other shortcodes if necessary. The default content width for the Spun theme is 700 pixels”) but I still couldn’t get the preview to show me what the blog would look like with images at 1,000 pixels.

    So my concern was that I would purchase the Custom Design upgrade, and that it still wouldn’t work.

    Do you have any idea why the preview might not work to show the width at 1,000 pixels?

    Hi Ian,

    No worries! To give you an idea I took screenshots so that you could compare the 1,000px content width versus the 700px content width:

    In addition, say that you purchase Custom Design and find that you don’t think it’s worth it? You can get a full refund within 30 days. :)

    Thank you for your help, but I’m still feeling rather stuck on this. I’ve now purchased ‘customisation’, changed the CSS to ensure my blog is 1000 pixels wide, but still can’t seem to get my main blog content to show at 1000 pixels wide.

    Hi Ian!

    You should be able to do this if you edit CSS. Please go to Appearance > Customize > CSS in your Dashboard and try adding this:

    .entry-content {
	width: 1000px;
}
