Stats not registering on my wordpress website

  • Unknown's avatar

I view the blog through a link in the email, but it seems that the stats are not registering the views since the past few days. I sent an email with the blog’s address to others, but the stats page shows no-one views it.
So, I opened the page thru email without logging in, several times, but it is not registering the views for some reason. My question is why?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Stats are being recorded as they should on your site. The reason it doesn’t seem that way is because people are not actually visiting your site: You have your site set to send out the full post in email notifications, meaning people can read the entire post in their email clients without ever having to visit your site. We can only track direct visits, not people reading the entire post in their email.

You can change that setting at the “For each article in a feed” heading here:

So, I opened the page thru email without logging in, several times

In an incognito window, or your regular browser window? If you just logged out in your regular browser session and didn’t clear the browser cache and cookies, we might still have detected a cookie for your account, meaning your views as an admin on the site still wouldn’t have been counted.

I copy/paste what is written on the blog and send it through my personal email.

Are you suggesting that I can alter settings such that a new post can automatically go to the people I want it to go (how?).

    Thanks!

So you’re manually emailing your posts to people? You’re not speaking of WordPress.com subscription emails? Then there is no way at all we’ll be able to track that. If you’re manually sending people an email, that has nothing to do with your WordPress.com site, and them reading the email won’t reflect in your site’s stats. The only time we record a stat is when someone visits your actual site in their browser or views a post in the WordPress.com Reader.

Are you suggesting that I can alter settings such that a new post can automatically go to the people I want it to go (how?).

No, you cannot send automatic emails to people. But people can subscribe to email notifications on your site and then we send them an email each time you publish a new post. But you can’t add people to a list yourself to receive these emails – they need to sign up themselves. The only thing you can control is whether the emails contain the full post or just an excerpt with a link back to your site to read the full post.

I am actually sending emails through Yahoo mail. However, I also send a link to the wordpress blog within the email. In that case, if someone clicks on the link in the email, would the stats register it (or is it just that they would have to copy/paste the web address in their browser in order to register the attempt in stats)?

    I appreciate your feedback.

  • If they click on the link it would record a stat, yes. But if you already send the full text of the post in the email there’s no reason for them to click the link.
