Our stats are page view stats. https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/ If I visit your blog and click into 10 posts that will be recorded as 1 visitor and 10 page views. But please do not assume that everyone who clicks a follow, like, share, reblog or comment link actually reads the post on your blog because odds are they may not.

Follow, like, share, reblog or comment clicks are not page views. In fact, follows, likes, shares, comments and reblogs are completely misleading when you are talking about page view stats. That is because your followers and anyone with a WordPress.com/Gravatar account who is logged into WordPress.com can “follow” your blog, “like”, “share” and “reblog” your posts and “comment” in several locations such as the Reader, without ever clicking into your blog and creating a single page view stat. Subscribers control how frequently they receive your posts (instantly, daily, weekly) and can comment without clicking into the blog.

Logged in wordpress.com members can read full posts in the wordpress.COM Reader now, so there is no incentive for them to click into your site.

We cannot prevent the full display of a whole post in the WordPress.com Reader and that’s one of the reason why I archived my blogs.

Yes, but on some occasions on Twitter analytics people have ‘clicked links’ to my site, and yet these have not recorded as views or visits, on other occasions every clink link from twitter relates to a view. Yesterday 12 people clicked a link to one of my blogs from twitter, but on WP it only showed as 7 visits, and only 3 of these from twitter. Usually every ‘click link’ on twitter results in a view, but recently this has been sporadic.. can someone click the link to a site and it not register..?

  • Hi @jamesballantyneyouthworker, that’s odd. Can I get more details?

    – Are you using publicize, or are you pasting your own links on Twitter? Or do you do both?

    – Do you click your own links from Twitter to test them?

    – How far off are the stats each day? If you can check the clicks vs views vs referrers for the past week, minus today and yesterday, that would be helpful.

I generally publicise my own links on twitter, and have done for years using the shortlink of the page. And i have tested them on a few occasions also. Today it seemed to work ok, but yesterday a post i uploaded received 12 link clicks on twitter, but only 4 registered as views on WP, people read the article and made comments. Today seemed to be ok and alligning so im not sure if was just a glich yesterday but it has happened once or twice before.

Just to clarify: when I say Publicize I mean you’re using the options under wordpress.com/sharing to automatically tweet when you write a new article.

Are you using that, or are you copying and pasting your own links into tweets you write manually?

Or do you do some combination of both?
