Stats page replaced with sales pitch.

  • Unknown's avatar

I have previously been able to see my stats for this site and can see still the stats of my other sites. However today my stats on this site have been replaced with a sales pitch, “Unlock site growth analytics: Get detailed insights into your site’s performance for $4/month with a Personal plan.”

No option is offered except to upgrade.

Is this the beginning of the end of free stats?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Thanks for your message. Don’t worry — free stats are still available on WordPress.com.

From my side, I can see that stats are visible on your site.

The banner you’re seeing is simply an option to upgrade if you’d like access to advanced analytics

It doesn’t affect your access to the free stats you’ve always had.

If you’re still not seeing your stats, could you please send us a screenshot of what you see on your end? Here’s how: https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/

This is what it looks like. The pitch appears right after my views/visitors and covers everything below that. As you can see, there are no options to close it. I am not selling anything, I just use WordPress like a blog to write fiction.

@rbateman2000 WP have replaced the useful Stats page with garbage. I have been complaining about this for several days and have been ignored! See here:

@maddogtvdinners Please do not try to hijack my thread. You have posted your issue now please be respectful of others and their own concerns.

@rbateman2000 I am not tying to hijack anything. You have the same issue that I have and WP doesn’t care!

@rbateman2000 Usually there is a button to dismiss that ad hiding your stats. Perhaps refreshing your browser will bring that button back?

Thanks for taking the time to try to help @themagicrobot. I did try restarting my browser in troubleshoot mode and also tried two other browsers which I normally do not use and have not customized at all. Nothing made any difference.

I have other WordPress.com sites with the same theme and none of them have this problem. Also, this site only developed its problem this past week. Before that it’s been working fine since January.

@sukhenduguria I have provided you with a screenshot. Are you able to provide any kind of update at this time?

  • Hi there,

Thanks for your patience while we looked into this.

I checked your site thealignmentproblem.wordpress.com, and I can confirm that the basic stats — such as Views, Visitors, Likes, and Comments — are still completely free and available on your site. I can see those showing correctly from my end.

    The message you’re seeing —

Unlock site growth analytics: Get detailed insights into your site’s performance for ₹200/month with a Personal plan

    — is an optional upgrade prompt. It refers to advanced analytics, which include:

    • Viewing trends and data for any time period
    • Detailed stats about posts, referrers, clicks, and more

If you’re happy with the basic stats, you don’t need to upgrade — your free stats will remain available as before.

Please try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache if the banner is still blocking your view. Let me know if it continues to cover your stats, and I’ll be glad to check further.

@sukhenduguria, thank you again for your attention to this matter.

    So far I have tried:

    • refreshing the page and clearing my browser cache
    • deleting the WordPress cookie
    • viewing the page on my PC in Firefox, Edge and Chrome. The latter two have zero customization, extensions etc.
    • used the web browser on my XBOX to visit the page
    • None of these have made any difference. The banner is still blocking my view of all stats below views/visitors.

    What I have observed:

    • the Jetpack Stats setting icon is also missing from this page. It is present on the stats pages of my other WordPress sites. The image below is from one of my other WordPress sites.
    • the overlay/banner appears, and the stats icon disappears, after a fraction of a second of the page loading. This last point, since it occurs on all browsers both on my PC and XBOX, strongly suggests the problem is not resulting from something on my end.
  • Hi @rbateman2000,

Thank you for your patience! In the screenshot you provided us earlier, I can see you have access to the basic stats, which are View, Visitors, Likes and Comments. There will also be a line or graph that shows above it.

Free sites have access to the last 7 days of views, visitors, likes, and comment stats.

The stats that show below (where the upgrade banner is) are currently accessible as part of the Personal plan. This includes all-time traffic, country stats, individual posts/pages stats, the ability to filter to a specific date range, as well as access to more in-depth insights like your site’s most popular time and date.

We have some more information about this here: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/#upgrade-your-stats

I can see that your site, thealignmentproblem.wordpress.com, was created after this change was implemented, so the upgrade banner will show. Any older existing free sites made before the change will not be impacted.

Please let us know if you have any questions.
