Sticky Posts for Only One Page

I am writing a specific series of posts for my blog. When they are done, I want to make a page out of the category with an introduction post saved as the sticky post for that page only.

Is there a way to make a sticky post for only this page on my blog, without it also being a sticky post on my main blog (home/archives page)?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If I’m understanding correctly, you’re asking if you can use a sticky post as an introduction to a category archives page.

    Ideas:
    1. You could create a page with the content of the sticky post (or an excerpt of the post) placed at the top, followed by a customized display posts shortcode which displays links to the remainder of the posts. Aside from the category, other arguments used in the code may include author, include date and date format, post order, include excerpt, (featured) image size, limiting the post IDs displayed, etc.

    2. On some themes the category description might display below the page title and above the posts of a category archives page. If this is the case with Twenty Twelve you could use the description as an introduction, though it might display centered if it displays at all.

I should have mentioned first that sticky posts may appear only on the posts page. So the above suggestions are workarounds which if implemented might approximate what you’re trying to accomplish.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I didn’t think that what I want to do was perfectly possible, but I figured I would see if anyone rlse knew something I didn’t. I’ll probably just do something along the lines of your first suggestion. Thanks.

You’re welcome. I’ll let you know if I come up with a better idea.

Thank you so much for this question, because I am in the midst of trying to do the same thing, LOL!

I’ve already drafted a Page (which will appear in the sidebar) which is an introduction to a specific Category/Archive of posts, but was hoping to be able to have a sticky “Index Post” always visible as the first post of that Category…. but I see ‘no can do’. The Index will eventually get to be quite long and each entry will have a link to the blog post in which the item appears.

So what I will end up doing is putting a link within the (permanent) Intro Page, telling people that if they want to utilize the Index Page (which is really a post, not a page, lol) they can go directly there via a link. If I see over time that a lot of people are using the Index Page/Post, then I will just convert it to a front-page Page in the sidebar…

(and I cannot believe how many times I’ve typed the words “page” and “post” in this, er, post, LOL)

    @ katemcolby,
    @ thechatsworthlady,

I forgot to mention that on some themes a tag or category description added at the corresponding editors will appear below the title of an tag or category archives page, respectively.

On tests with the Twenty Twelve theme activated, I found that a tag and category descriptions will display below the title of a tag archives page. The text is left aligned.

On tests with the Edin theme activated, I found that a tag and category descriptions will display below the title of a tag archives page. However, in each case the text displays centered and alignment tags were stripped when I attempted to alignment the text to the left.

Category and tag descriptions do not display on the archives pages of the Koi theme, the theme I’ve been using for the past few years on my primary website.

    @ thechatsworthlady,
I haven’t run the same tests on the Chateau theme yet.

With typos and other errors corrected:
