Still not releasing old blog addresses?
-
I tried wordpress.com a few years back, and it looks like I deleted my blog after I’d tried it out. Which I realise now was a very bad idea. The question is if you’re still not able to release previously used wordpress.com addresses?
And if that is so, what’s the reason for not doing this?
I’ll try to find a new name to use in the mean time.

No, they still are not recycling deleted blog URLs. The reasons for not recycling blog URLs is explained in this support document.

Here’s the latest staff reply on this subject, which I found in a recent thread appearing on the front page of the forums https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/get-someone-to-release-taken-blog-name?replies=16#post-664681

The support document does not say anything about the previous owner wanting to reactivate the blog address though.

When you delete a site, there are clear warnings that this is permanent and those warnings are repeated in the confirmation email that one receives. Sorry, permanent is permanent in this case.

Yes, I know there is warnings, but I can honestly say I can’t remember what they were back when I did delete the blog (3-5 years ago?). And it is slightly different when the person that deleted the blog (same wordpress.com account) would like to reactivate it, than giving it to anyone who wants it.
But I do understand the reasons given in the Support Document.

I think it would be a good idea if they let the original owner reactivate a deleted blog, but I don’t know all the back-end stuff so I don’t know how easy or hard that might be for them to implement.
3-5 years ago the warnings were there, but not as strongly worded as they are now.
