Stopping instant post feedback in 'feedback and progress' sidebar

  I keep getting congratulatory messages when I publish a post which is going to drive me mad. I have gone into my account settings and removed the tick from the ‘Instant post feedback’ box – when I click Save the page displays with the tick removed, but if I refresh the page or navigate away and back again, the save has not worked and I am still getting messages after I post.
  Please – how to turn off so it STAYS off?

  Turn it off, log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, and then check the page again. If it’s re-enabled itself again, report back here with your browser and version number.

  Thanks for reply – I did the sign out, empty cache in Safari, delete cookies, re-start Mac thing but the tick is still sticking in the box.

  I also tried via iPhone (also Safari) with the same non-result.

  I’m using Safari 5.0.6 on the mac, can’t see which version is on iPhone.

  Anything else I could try?
