Subscribe to private blog?

I just created a private blog. When I try to subscribe to it, I get this error:

“Blog not added: blogname.wordpress.com is visible only to chosen users.” (blogname being my ‘real’ blog name.)

So it seems that I can’t subscribe to a blog if the blog is private … is this true? My user is created and has been granted access to the blog.

That is true. Private blogs don’t have RSS feeds, for obvious privacy reasons.

Ok – thanks raincoaster … I assumed that had to be it. I understand the reason, but I had hoped there was some kind of ‘filter’ or something that might have been built in to prevent the RSS feed from going out to just anyone. As a matter of fact, I can’t see how a ‘non-invited’ user would be able to subscribe anyway, so it seems you could allow the feed without any risk … (?)

(Another thought … would I have the same problem if I tried to do it through Feedburner? Or is it the same deal??)

As far as I know, no feed is produced at all. Because if it were, it could get passed around easily.
