Suggestion: Applets and math teaching
-
Hello everyone, i am a big fan of WordPress and right now i’m using the self hosted version in http://www.geometriadinamica.cl , where i write about dynamic geometry and share teaching ideas and resources.
As a math teacher, those are the most interesting resources i find in the web, all of them created with Java. Geogebra (.org), for instance, is a very powerful application to teach math. In that case, just by inserting the java applet you can actually use it inside a web page, without even installing. That pseudo – Webstart, allows many teachers, specially, beginners, to teach with dynamic geometry applications earlier in their learning process.
And we have so many other Dynamic geometry applications, like Cabri, Sketchpad, Cinderella, CarMetal, Kig, Geonext, and many more, and for each one of these, there is a learning / teaching community, beyond the development team, that create math related content, and have been sharing it increasingly through the web (with Java).
Anyway, i have read all the posts related to the applet tag issue, and there are a number of teachers that share this kind of content in their blogs, but we can’t do that in WordPress.com. Most users go to Blogger, others upload their applets elsewhere.
It would be a huge opportunity for us, to have applets in posts, and trust me, many teachers and math enthusiast would come, to connect the WordPress blogging experience with their interest in talking about math with dynamic resources, which is one of many new facets of blogging.
Thank’s in advance and greetings from Chile
