Supported CSS?

Why do you strip @import from css? Nowhere in your docs do you mention CSS limitations. What other limitations do you have? Why are we forced to use typekit for fonts when google web fonts provides them for free and fast. @import should be supported but I’d like to also know what other things won’t work in CSS.

  • Hi there, WordPress.com doesn’t allow loading outside files such as font files using @import. We allow most CSS, but @font-face and @import are removed for security reasons since WordPress.com is a shared environment.

We started the Custom Design feature with Typekit as a partner, and that’s why we only offer Typekit fonts at this time. We may consider adding other font sources in the future.

Which font would you like to use? If you let me know, I would be glad to see if there might be a Typekit alternative, even beyond the fonts offered by default through our standard Custom Design interface.

Capsuula. I don’t want to use typekit. If you don’t allow @font-face and @import, it should be stated clearly prior to purchase. I don’t think saying “We allow most CSS” is sufficient before someone opens their wallet and invests a lot of time on your platform. It would also be nice if you had a free alternative to upload fonts.

  • Thanks for your feedback – you’re right, this could be made clearer. I’ve added a new FAQ to our Custom CSS page to clarify that we don’t currently allow @import and @font-face.

If you would like a refund for your Value Bundle if it doesn’t meet your needs, I would understand. Just let me know – I can remove the bundle and issue a refund.

  • I know you’ve said you don’t want to use Typekit, but just in case you do decide to keep the Custom Design upgrade, one of our designers mentioned that Ronnia Web Condensed is part of our selection and has a similar look-and-feel to Capsuula, though of course it isn’t exactly the same. Thought I’d mention it just in case you decided to give it a try.
