Switching site from 3rd party host to wordpress host
-
We are currently trying to leave a company that has hosted our site for years and want to transfer everything back to wordpress to host so that we can update our site as needed ourselves. Can someone let me know what the process would be for that? Do we need to get a DNS released and put in through WordPress? How do we make this transition smooth and what do I need to tell/get from the company that currently hosts/runs our WordPress site? Thanks!!

No worries, we can help out with this process.
Your domain can be brought to WordPress.com 2 different ways. You’ll need to decide which option is best for you.
1. Transfer the domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
2. Map the domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Normally, folks will set up their new site with one of our free addresses. Once it is ready to launch, they will connect the domain at the back end. This limits potential down time.
I’d also suggest looking over this learning guide at https://learn.wordpress.com/
