Switching to hosted blog

    Hello,
We have noticed the advertisement to switch to [blogname].com for $18 per year. Would that option allow us to include affiliate links (within the theme of our blog) and google ads on our blog?
Additionally, will we get access to the database via FTP?

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    No and no and no.

Each upgrade at WP.com applies only exactly to what it says. This is not a switch to independent hosting: it is just a custom domain name. Just a name. Just a URL. That’s it.

If you actually buy hosting somewhere and export your blog contents to the new site, then you are independently hosted and bound only by the ToS of your new host. Most allow affiliate marketing and ads.

    Hi Raincoaster,
Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

If we decided to host elsewhere, will WordPress provide an opportunity to export the database? I would assume so, from your remark “and export your blog contents to the new site”. Would I need upgraded service for that or an independent installation of WP?
