Switching Username Help

  I switched my username to a random username in an attempt to get it switched on another account. Now, when I try to change it back on the original account, it says that the username is taken.. ? How is that? This is the original account for the username. How do I go about retrieving the old (desired) username. Branding counts. I do not think that it should be this hard to manage different usernames. Is it a security issue? Any assistance would be appreciated.

  As very clearly stated the moment you changed your username, “Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use.”

  Hi there,

  Once a username is used it cannot be used by any other account, ever. Deleting or changing a username does not make it available for other accounts to use.

  Additionally username changes are irreversible, so I’m afraid your samycostello username is now gone.

  You can still set your public display name to the username you want instead, then that will show as the author of your posts/comments instead of the actual username.
