Switching WordPress.com domain names
-
Someone is about to give me their WordPress website url, but they want to switch their website over to another url first. Is there an easy way for him to keep the website contents and switch the domain name easily, so I can then have his current domain url?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I can help with that.
Just to be clear, are you taking possession of a Custom Domain (johnsmith.com) or a WordPress.com domain (johnsmith.wordpress.com)?

If you are just having a custom domain transferred to your posession (and not the underlying WordPress.com site that it was previously connected to) then the current owner won’t have to do anything. Their content will remain available at the underlying ________.wordpress.com URL.

Ok great. Two questions then:
1. How do we transfer the custom domain?
2. Can the other person, after the transfer, create another custom domain with their content? -
1. How do we transfer the custom domain?
So, there are a couple ways to do this. The easiest way is for the other user to add you as an admin on their blog and then make the request that the upgrade (in this case a domain) be transferred to you. Once that is done, you would request that the domain (which you would now own) be moved to whatever WordPress.com site you want to use it with.
2. Can the other person, after the transfer, create another custom domain with their content?
Yes, absolutely.
