Tag Cloud Doesn’t Show All Tags

  • Unknown's avatar

    hi there, everyone.

I have a little problem, but it bugs me quite much. in my dashboard, I see that I have 47 tags. but in my tag cloud widget that appears on my blog page, there is less than 47 tags.
I wonder if there is something wrong? did I somehow set it wrong back then? because I know that tag cloud will show all tags I have on my blog. or is there any limit to number of tags tag cloud widget can display?

thank you very much for your help. ^__^

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The tag cloud widget ONLY shows the first 45 tags you use. This is one reason I don’t use tags.

    ah, so that explains it!
thank you very much for your answer.

hm, I suppose we can’t do anything to change this? I agree that when tags that are shown is limited, there is not much point in using tags. especially since we are encouraged to use around 3-5 tags per post. ^^”

then, is there a way for us to pick which tags are displayed?

No you cannot pick; but the tag cloud widget displays the 45 most used tags.

“Encouraged to use around 3-5 tags per post”? By whom? Tags are entirely optional.

If you like the effect of the Tag Cloud widget (actually not a cloud at all), you can use categories instead of tags, and add the Category cloud widget. In contrast to the Tag cloud widget, the C.C. widget allows you to set the number of categories shown.

well, members are encouraged to use around 3-5 tags (or maybe not really that number, I forget) for their posts if they want their blog to be found easier through wordpress.com’s tag category.

anyways, okay then. I guess I’ll just delete some tags, or even remove the tag cloud. thanks for your help, raincoaster and panaghiotisadam! ^__^

You’re welcome. The total of tags plus categories per post should be kept to a reasonable number, but there’s no fixed number in general, and no fixed number for tags in particular: can very well be some categories and zero tags, because tags and categories are exactly the same thing (for search engines and global WP pages they both count as tags).
