Teaser, archived articles – where again? / Doesn't featured image go w/archives?

In monthly archives, you find just a few mines of text. There is a full headline, and then a “teaser” of just a few words that lead to “continue reading.” I found the area before and added those teaser words, but I’ve spent 2 days looking for them now and I’m baffled as to where the area is now. (I have that problem A LOT on this site.)
In addition, I upload a “Featured Image,” and I click to set it. My assumption, because I managed a WordPress website recently that was 8o% the same as this one (but that one was much more intuitive), these images went with the teasers in the archive. But the information given in the help section doesn’t make it clear where they actually show up. I only want them with the archived articles, which is how had them before.
