Text Excerpt when using search widget
-
Hello!
The way my site is laid out, each post has it’s own featured image with a text excerpt and “read more option” however, when users use the search widget on th right sidebar, every article that pops up shows the entire text..not just an excerpt with a “read more” option. Why is that? And is there any way to fix it?
Let me know! – Frank

Hi there,
Most search result pages will show the full post (even if the theme does not normally show this) so that the searcher can confirm that the term they entered is relevant to the content of the post. It can confuse visitors if they search a specific term or word, and the results page does not show that, only the title/excerpt (which may not contain their search term)
There is not a way to change the default behavior of the theme, but you may want to consider upgrading to “Jetpack Search” which is more robust that what is included keyword highlighting (similar to Google) in the search results: https://wordpress.com/support/jetpack-search/
For example, we use Jetpack search on our support site, so when you perform a search on that site, you can see Jetpack search in action.
Here is what the results of a Jetpack search looks like, so you can see the keyword highlighting:
Hope this helps!
