That Block Editor………..
-
I absolutely hate the Block editor! I write Stream of Consciousness and the block editor is absolutely defiant. The blocks jump all over the place. The tools disappear when I want them. The toolbar sits right where I am trying to type. It’s impossible to go back to a page or post and update material on a regular basis. I am seriously considering moving to another blogging site because all I want to do is write. I don’t want to fight all the time with the jumping blocks and disappearing toolbars. Dear WordPress, it has become too complicated to be a writer on this site. Please consider Streamlining the site and make it more user friendly. A place for choices for the different kinds of people/writers on this site!!!!!!!!!! Thank you.

Nowadays most other CMS mainly use a block editor or something simular, so swithcing to another platform won’t be much of a help.
I never had problems with jumping blocks, disapearing toolbars, … make sure you use the latest version of the support browsers being: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, or Microsoft Edge. Disable addblockers and similar.
You could use the Classic Block – https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/

Hi there, if your site was created prior to 5 February 2025, you should still have access to the Classic Editor.
If not, did you know that you can pin Toolbars to the top of the editing workspace in the Block Editor so they don’t float around? https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/customize-blocks/#top-vs-floating-toolbar
You can also type plain text (without any formatting) in the “Code” Editor. https://wordpress.com/support/code/#edit-html-in-the-wordpress-editor look under “If you want to edit the entire page”
You can write in an external text editor, like EditPad Lite (NAYY), and paste it into the “Code” Editor, or write directly in the WordPress.com “Code” Editor. Try it out on a test post or page.
If I have a chance later I’ll upload a temporary screenshot.

I am migrating to Substack. They don’t have Block and it will be much easier. And Classic is now embedded in Block and has become unmanageable. Copy and paste which is what I have always done doesn’t work either. I am Stream of Consciousness Writer and don’t want all the digitizing involved with Block. I am hearing that many Streamers are also leaving WordPress for the same reasons as I. I like my Chateau template, but maybe I can recreate some of the ambience on Substack, at least with the Background colors and some photos. Sorry.

Once you have your new place set up, you might want to write a last post on your current WPcom site pointing your visitors and subscribers to the new site.
If you ever decide you want to return to WPcom, here are some guides to assist you https://wordpress.com/support?s=substack&sort=relevance
Cheers and good luck.
