The commenting system isn't working for me.
-
When I attempt to comment on blogs I follow, I am redirected to a login screen that asks me, “Are you [My Real Name]?” and asks me to log in using WordPress or Gravatar credentials. I submit these credentials but am redirected back to the login page. Typically I do this several times in succession before giving up in frustration.
Most frustrating is that I am asked to log in even though I am already logged into Gravatar and WordPress under the username I wish to use.

In fact, on the blog where I enter my comment, I am informed : ‘perlgerl: You are commenting using your WordPress.com account.’ So WordPress is already informed of who I am. Nonetheless I am stuck in please-login infinite-loop purgatory.

I just verified that third-party cookies are enabled, but no luck. And the fact that I am posting here proves I can log into my account.
The login screen to which I am redirected tells me, ‘You are being asked to login because [email address] is used by an account you are not logged into now.’ This is puzzling since I am logged into that account at the time I attempt to comment.

Would you please let us know which email address you’re using?
As long as you post it in the normal format, only myself and my colleagues will be able to see it.
-
-
The way you’re type it in an email. If I gave an example, it would be hidden from you. :)
-
I see. Well, here goes.

Do you see anything?
-
Hm, that should work without trouble.
Would you please try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache?
-
I opened Safari, a browser I hardly ever use (and had not tried this on), clicked ‘Reset Safari’ (that empties everything), and experienced the same issue of being kicked back to the login screen. Curiously when I opened a new window and went to wordpress.com, I found I was logged in!
Let me try it in Firefox .
-
Same thing in Firefox. I checked that third-party cookies were enabled in both browsers.
-
-
Nope.
I’ll try it on my Ubuntu box at work. I’ll even try firefox -P to create a fresh profile with nothing in it, and try it again.
-
Nope.
- firefox -P
- create new profile using wizard
- go to a wordpress site, attempt to comment.
open firefox under fresh profile
find myself perpetually bounced back to wp-comments-post.php
If I return to the wordpress site, I see it knows I am logged in as perlgerl.
I have experienced this on at least two WordPress sites.
It must be either a) a fiendish bug or b) some incredibly simple, embarassing oversight on my part. In either case your help is appreciated.

Hm, this is interesting. By any chance, do you have a second WordPress.com account, or just this one?
-
I think I do but haven’t logged into it for a long time.

-
Would you please give that a try and see if you run into anything different. Using the second account may kick something back into gear.
-
Using that account, I was not kicked back to the login screen after submitting my credentials.
-
Perfect, I think that might have kicked it back in gear. Would you please try the main account again?
