The number of Share coungts reset to zero after updating/editing my post

My share counts have reset to zero after I edited/updated my posts such as change of the photos in the post. Is there any way to prevent this? (Sometimes I notice typos or want to change pictures after it’s been published yet I do not want to start counting from zero again.) My page is still very young so all the shares are super valuable to me…. Thanks everyone for helping me out here.

Can it probably be related to the change of the title as well? I am not sure about this but I think I have also changed the titles, hence the change in URL, maybe?

Yes, changing the Title/URL of a post or page after you’ve published it will make those share numbers reset and can cause a lot of 404 Not Found errors from the Recent Posts and other widgets and search engines as well.

You can certainly edit a post or page after the fact, but best to triple inspect and decide on at least the title/URL before you hit that Publish button.

If you do NEED to change the Title of a post or page after you’ve published it, make sure the post/page slug remains the same. See here:

Let me know if you need more help with that.
