theme changing – content deleted

  • Unknown's avatar

I have been in the process of (accidentally) destroying my blog.

First I meant to publish a post but put it up as a page. So now I will need to redo it manually.

Next I changed the theme and deleted my home page. I did not realize I would lose all of my content. I think I have the text for that page somewhere I but will have to reconstruct it.

I do not know what my original theme was called but I want to go back to that one because I don’t like my new theme.

Any ideas on how I can find my original theme?

  • Hi there,

Of what site are you speaking? Changing a theme on a WordPress.com site cannot delete any content, so either you’re not speaking of a WordPress.com site, or things might not be quite as bad as you think :)

If you’re speaking of the site, https://escapeempire.travel.blog/, it looks like you have that site on Modern Business until yesterday. You can reactivate it from https://escapeempiretravel.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php, but that theme has been retired, so I’d rather recommend switching to the newer version of that theme, called Maywood.

I see your site is currently showing the default homepage for the Balasana theme which would have been activated when you activated that theme. But your original home page would have been set to draft at that time, so you should see it if you go to My Site ->Site ->Pages. Edit it and re-publish it, and then you can reset that as your front page from the Customizer.

    Phew. Thank you.

This is a relief. Yes I am talking about the escape empire blog.

I found the original home page and republished it.

I deleted the random themes (that I was trying) from the drafts.

But now the pages are in the wrong order.

Any ideas on how I can fix that?

I want there to be the home page, then my blogroll in this order:
    “Farewell…” post,
    “Imagine a Toxin” post

Then I want to have the blog posts displayed chronologically by the publishing date. Starting with the “Provisions” page that I meant to be a blog post.

Is there a simple way to change the Provisions page into a blog post or do I need to do this manually?

If I choose a new theme, do I need to put in the info manually?

    Thank you.

  • To fix that, build a custom menu following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

Thank you. That ended up being the incorrect video. It was about creating a menu for the site. I needed to reorder my website pages. I was able to figure this out by fussing around with the various tabs.

Thanks for all the help. Things seem to back in order.

  • That’s great news :) Keep us in mind if you run in to any other questions.
