    The only time we will ask you for money is if you try to add a paid plan to your site, or if you try to use a feature that’s only available on a paid plan.

    If you see a payment feature on a specific site, that has nothing to do with us, but is something that was added by that site’s owner. Owners of WordPress.com sites are allowed to monetize their sites in various way, including adding for donations, selling services or products, or even selling subscriptions to a site.
