There was an error processing your recent comment reply by email

Over the past two days, I have received two such headed e-mail ‘advisories.’ The thing is, I have not instigated any ‘comments by e-mail’ anywhere, and the contained links have no relevance in any way to my web site, even though it is included in a reply mailto: link. Anyone any ideas what this is and should I be concerned???
Mahalo for any and all feedback. Aloha!!

Mahalo, fstat, for your prompt response. That’s appreciated. 🙏
I started looking here at WP.com, because that was (ostensibly) where the e-mails originated from. The content of the latest one was:

Subject: There was an error processing your recent comment reply by email
To: [email redacted]Howdy!
We ran into a problem with your recent comment reply by email. Specifically, we weren’t able to find your comment in the email.
We’ll do our best to get this fixed up. In the meantime, you may want to comment directly on the post:

No comment was made on the supposed subject in the e-mail, and there is no “Phyllis~Foucher” here, albeit that the web site is correct, via WP.org.
I have no wish to take up anyone’s time unnecessarily – just trying to figure out what this is and what best to do about it. Again, Mahalo for any and all help.
Happy Days!! 😄

Hi! Do you happen to have autoresponder set up on your account? This can sometimes cause a loop since the autoresponder doesn’t have the right format for a comment reply.
Let me know, thanks!

Aloha, Darnell! 🙏
No autoresponder is enabled as far as I am aware.
Mahalo for your feedback! Happy Days!! 👍🏻

Hi there,
there is no “Phyllis~Foucher”
So you’re saying the
Phyllis~Foucher@email address hasn’t actually been created by you on your domain? I assume you do have another email address configured @VibrationallySound.com, correct? If that’s the case, then it means someone else is likely replying to email notifications for comments, spoofing the
Phyllis~Foucher@email as the FROM email on those replies.Because our system thinks that’s where the comment email is coming from, we are sending the failure notice back there.
But because that email doesn’t exist, your email provider for your email on your site delivers that email to your regular inbox instead – email hosts can do this as a fallback, delivering any messages to an email that doesn’t exist, to the primary email account on the domain instead.
I don’t know why someone would try to reply to a comment via a spoofed sender address – perhaps an attempt to spam the post referenced in that email notice – but that’s the only thing I can think of that would explain why you’re receiving these.
The only way to prevent getting more of these is to set up a filter in your email account to automatically delete it. Or perhaps your email control panel has an option where you can tell it not to redirect emails to this Phyllis~Foucher@ address.

Aloha and Mahalo, kokkieh!! 😄 🙏
All aligned with what you wrote. The rationale behind them also perplexed me. There appeared to be no benefit in connecting to / commenting on old pages such as were referenced in the two e-mails, neither of which had any relevance to the other.
I briefly went into the e-mail control panels for this web site and set up a filter as suggested, but I do need to return there and do a more thorough review of settings.
Again, big Mahalos for your feedback, kokkieh. Absent any other replies, I suspect that this thread is completed – ?? Thanks to all for your connection and thoughts. Aloha!! 😄 🙏
