Thinking of changing site address

What are the implications if I want to change my .wordpress.com site address please? Is there a way to do this that won’t lose my followers? Thanks

Hi there,
You won’t lose anything if you upgrade to a custom domain. The new domain will just be applied over your existing site, like putting a dust-jacket on a book – it will look different from the outside, but it will still be the exact same book. Likewise a domain will mean a new address appears in the browser when someone looks at the site, but it will still be the exact same site.
The current WordPress.com address will also still work, so your visitors might not even notice anything has changed if they don’t pay attention to their browser address bar.
The only thing that might be affected is your search engine traffic, but if you verify your site with Google Search Console, and then use their address change tool to notify them of the domain change once you add the new domain, even that impact will be minimal.
