this block editor sucks
-
i need an option to permanently enable classic editor, not as a block choice.
-
Me too, I haven’t the time or inclination to re-learn a new system, the old editor was clunky but intuitive, i.e very easy to use without any instructions, which is why I believe WordPress became so popular in the first place.
-
I realised a few people already complained about the block editor and the reply was “It’s not possible to make the Classic Editor your primary one as we’re retiring it.
Have a look at the support pages that @supernovia mentioned, they will help you get the hang of the new editor :)”I’m glad for change and everything but it misses the point of seamless writing, microsoft word and pages don’t use these blocks. i don’t want each sentence as a block. i’ve tried doing working on pages first then posting in the editor but it messes up the formatting. this is killing poetic experiments.

hi Steve, I agree. it was easy and cleaner to work with. hopefully they also understand that choice is important for these humans who are also users.

I am going to have to move to Blogger unfortunately.
I’m just glad I didn’t sign up and pay for 2 years or I would be stuck here now.
I appreciate the free blog hosting WP has given me over the years, and I understand that software needs to be modernised etc, but I think they took too big a jump in one step and it will frighten off sad old guys like me that hate change.

We have tips for transitioning from the classic editor to blocks https://wordpress.com/support/switching-from-the-classic-to-the-block-editor/ and FAQs: https://wordpress.com/support/replacing-the-older-wordpress-com-editor-with-the-wordpress-block-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
And, if you really want to use something like the classic editor, we recommend sticking with the classic block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/
For more details, please see https://wordpress.com/blog/2020/08/13/the-classic-editing-experience-is-moving-not-leaving/
We do recommend the new editor though, and we have some extensive documentation available at https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/
